Radiant is a fantasy anime series based on the French comic book series of the same name by Tony Valente. It follows the adventures of Seth, a young sorcerer who dreams of becoming a great hunter of Némésis, mysterious creatures that fall from the sky and threaten the world. Along with his friends Melie and Doc, he travels across the land in search of the legendary Radiant, the source of all Némésis.
Radiant is notable for being the first French comic book series to be adapted into an anime, and for being one of the few non-Japanese works to be serialized in a Japanese manga magazine. The anime adaptation was produced by Lerche, a studio known for works such as Assassination Classroom, Danganronpa, and Monster Musume. The first season of Radiant aired from October 6, 2018 to February 23, 2019, and covered the first four volumes of the comic book series.
The second season of Radiant aired from October 2, 2019 to February 26, 2020, and covered volumes 5 to 7 of the comic book series. It continued the story of Seth and his friends as they faced new enemies and allies, and explored new regions and mysteries.
After leaving Rumble Town, Seth, Doc and Melie are back at the Artemis Institute. Thanks to Alma, Seth learns more about Piodon, his mysterious brother. But the quest for the Nemeses mythical nest Radiant has already waited too long, so the Horned Boy and his friends head to the island-continent of Cyfandir, where the Wizard Knights reside.
There, Seth meets Ocoho, a Sorcerer-Knight Apprentice who becomes his new friend and rival. He also encounters Diabal, a mysterious infected who claims to be his ally. Meanwhile, Captain Dragunov is promoted to a Thaumaturge, a special agent of the Inquisition who can use Fantasia. He is assigned to infiltrate Cyfandir with Liselotte, another Thaumaturge who has a personal grudge against Seth.
As Seth tries to gain access to the information about Radiant in Cyfandir’s library, he learns that the city is under threat by a powerful Némésis called Dullahan. He also discovers that there is a conspiracy involving the Queen of Cyfandir, Boudica, and a mysterious man called Myrddin. Seth must join forces with Ocoho and Diabal to stop the Némésis and expose the traitors.
However, things are not as simple as they seem. Seth realizes that his infection is growing stronger and affecting his mind. He also learns that there is a connection between Radiant and Piodon, and that he might have to face his brother sooner than he expected.
