STORYLINE
The Purge is an American media franchise centered on a series of dystopian action horror films distributed by Universal Pictures and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes, mainly created by James DeMonaco.
The films in the series take place in a future society in which all crime, including murder, is legal for a 12-hour period once a year. The premise is that this “Purge” allows society to release its pent-up aggression and violence, leading to a safer and more prosperous society for the rest of the year. However, as the film progress, it becomes clear that the Purge is actually used by the wealthy and powerful to eliminate the poor and disadvantaged.
The first film in the series, The Purge, was released in 2013 and follows a wealthy family as they try to survive the night of the Purge. The second film, The Purge: Anarchy, was released in 2014 and follows a group of people who are caught outside during the Purge and must fight for their survival. The third film, The Purge: Election Year, was released in 2016 and follows a U.S. Senator who is running for president and becomes a target during the Purge. The fourth film, The First Purge, was released in 2018 and serves as a prequel to the trilogy, showing the inception and early implementation of the Purge.
